2019 NAIOP University Challenge, Team USD Winning Scheme
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In the 2019 NAIOP University Challenge, focusing on the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) site in San Diego, the winning team was from the University of San Diego. They presented a redevelopment plan named "Delta District," a dense, mixed-use development plan with a proposed value of $1.6 billion. The team's winning plan was presented at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
Jacob Schwartz from Urban Housing Partners was the student’s mentor for the project, inviting DBRDS to be part of the team providing an architectural vision for the students development proposal. Being provided with a site, a proforma, and a design statement, we set about creating a vision that spoke to the dynamic ideas for a this new precinct dubbed the ‘Delta District’ and through many late nights, student conversations and the motivation to give these amazing students the best support we could for their competition entry, this was the end, and winning, result.
