  • IVAN RIMANIC

    Founding Principal

After graduating from one of Sydney’s premier design institution – the University of Technology (UTS), Ivan joined Marchese + Partners Architects [MPA] in 1997. He was quickly promoted as an Associate within the firm by excelling on projects such as the iconic Bondi Icebergs Clubhouse & the Historic Brookvale Brickwork’s conversion to residential units.

In 2006 Ivan relovated to San Diego to collaborate on a series of large-scale mixed-use and multi-family projects across the United States.

In 2008, Ivan and Pauly partnered up to bring DBRDS to life. As co-founder and and design principal of DBRDS, Ivan brings back the notion of the architect as artist with a design process based in the fluidity of the free hand. A process that makes room for discovery that provides the client design solutions in programming while maintaining a sexy, cool, contemporary aesthetic.

When he’s not designing, or spending time with his family, you will most likely find Ivan in the outdoors, cycling, hiking or running, or indoors exploring buildings, particularly the ones that house cultural institutions or wonderful café bars, whether it be at home in California, Australia or the next destination.

  • ANDREA VAZQUEZ

    Designer / Project Coordinator

Andrea is a true trans-border native. Born in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, she equally embraces and celebrates her cultures. She knew she wanted to be an architect when she realized she could transfer her passion of creating imaginary worlds in a cartoon strip into the real world. While she stayed local for her architectural studies at The Newschool of Architecture and Design, she loves traveling abroad every chance she gets. Andrea enjoys expanding her senses with new experiences, whether it be skydiving, rafting, hot air ballooning, hiking, trying out boxing and loving it, going to concerts, or venturing into nature for a camping trip; it all fuels her curiosity.

She actively holds an address in both the US and Mexico, making her acutely tuned into both worlds, and it comes as no surprise that she values diversity and a work/life balance.

Andrea’s 10-year professional career has focused on single family housing, commercial projects ranging from many local bars and restaurants as well as multi-family high-rise projects all mostly located within Southern California.

  • TOMMY HERNANDEZ

    Designer

Outside of DBRDS, Tommy is a Contributing Faculty member at NewSchool of Architecture in Design in San Diego, where he instructs students on the fundamentals of passive design.

From 2018-2022, Tommy also served on the Board for the NewSchool Foundation, and was elected to the Balboa Park Committee of 100 Board of Directors from 2020-2022.

In 2023, Tommy was elected to the San Diego Architectural Foundation’s Board of Directors. SDAF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring San Diegans to discover the value of design in the built environment.

  • TROY BURNETT

    Operations Director

Beyond his mad-skills with Excel & numbers in general, Troy is a die-hard fan of most things Texas sports related, specifically the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys & San Antonio Spurs.

He’s a wine connoisseur, an IPA expert, and a Pit-Master with the chops to take any BBQ to the next level…needless to say he is DBRDS’ Most Interesting Man in most rooms he walks into.

  • HARLEY

Harley considers herself a well-cultured pup with lineage tracing back to Tibet and China. Living with her Mexican and Puerto Rican parents, Harley honed her skills of patience and understanding and even learned to give a little side eye. She graduated with a certificate of registration from the US Service Animal Registry in 2019 and has since been working as San Diego's finest Emotional Support Pup.

When she's not greeting clients and forcing much needed breaks from the team, Harley can be found people watching under a shady tree or chasing the occasional pigeon. She also enjoys lounging at the beach, sleeping up to 16 hours a day, and bringing a friendly face to everyone she meets.
