503 El Cortez, San Diego

Built in 1927, the El Cortez building was originally designed as an “apartment hotel” containing 85 hotel rooms and 32 apartments. The design philosophy introduced by DBRDS was to improve the flow of the living spaces, add softness and textural elements to brighten the bedrooms, and modernize the kitchen by turning it into a gathering place.
